A 33 year old man in Masaka district has walked 27.9km with a 20 liter jerrycan full of water without resting for shillings 400,000.
Japhet Mwebembezi a resident of Kyanamuka Village, Kyantale Parish in Kyanamukaaka Sub County in Masaka district on Tuesday walked from Kyanamuka Village to Masaka (about 16 miles) following a competition with a colleague identified as Paul Muwonge.
Mwebembezi told village mates that he can walk from Kyanamuka to Masaka town while carrying a 20 litter jerrycan of water without resting which locals first refuted.
This prompted locals led by Muwunge to bet shillings 200, 0000 and Mwebembezi a known pork butcher also bet the same amount and he was to walk away with shillings 400,000 after the game.
Wherever Mbebembezi and the group passed he was joined by other people and by the time he reached Kirimya trading center along Masaka- Kyotera road about 4 kilometers from Masaka town he was so tied and he could not make it any longer.
It took the intervention of Kyanamukaka Sub County Chairperson Paul Migadde to sweet talk the competing groups to end the game before the agreed destination (Masaka central business area)
Migadde says that he was forced to intervene because he observed that Mwebembezi was about to collapse because he was too tired.
