A concerned citizen has petitioned the High Court in Kampala seeking an order to dissolve the current local council structures.
John Edward Agaba says that the LC 1 and 2 chairpersons are illegally holding office yet they are unlawfully issuing documents to citizens in the current registration of National IDs.
Agaba contends that in April 2007, the Constitutional Court declared the structures illegal and ordered for fresh elections, however the Attorney General defied the ruling.
He also wants court to compel government to immediately stop payment of 120,000 shillings as monthly allowance to each LC chairperson
The court’s deputy registrar Charles Emuria has issued summons requiring the Attorney General to file his defence within 15 days.
