The Anti-pornography bill should be shelved.
The Uganda Law Reform Commission has recommended that the proposed Anti-Pornography Bill 2011 be dropped.
Appearing before the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee, the acting secretary to the commission Patrick Nyakana said there are already existing laws that address the provisions in the proposed bill, like the Penal Code and the Uganda Communications Commission Act.
He further recommends that thorough consultation is made before any such bills are brought to parliament to avoid conflict.
This comes just a day after the Uganda Communications Commission too rejected the bill as unnecessary.
The bill seeks to among other things repeal and replace section 166 of the penal code Act 120, and prohibits pornography in any form.
