Lands state minister, Aidah Nantaba says she has quit NRM party over what she termed as massive vote rigging entrenched in the party.
She has declared that she will contest as an independent candidate for the Kayunga district woman MP seat in 2016.
Nantaba’s declaration at her home in Ndeeba near Kayunga town followed protests by hundreds of her supporters, who have stormed the Kayunga district NRM office tearing party cards before handing them over to the district NRM administrator, Olver Matama.
Other torn NRM cards were strewn along the main street. The protestors claimed that Kalangwa’s victory as Kayunga district NRM chairman was marred by massive rigging and intimidation of their candidate, Nantaba by gun wielding campaign agents, claims Kalangwa denies.
Anti- riot police battled the angry mob, which barricaded the Kayunga–Kampala road, burning old tyres and bringing business in the town to a halt.
Earlier, Kayunga LC 5 chairman Steven Dagada, too threatened to quit NRM accusing the party of failing to organize credible elections.
