The non-teaching staff of Kyambogo University has threatened to strike again overgovernment’s failure to clear their salary arrears for non-teaching staff in public universities across the country.
According to an agreement the staff signed with the president in September last year, government promised to give them a pay rise in the FY 2016/17 and also clear their arrears for the FY 2015/16.
However, Jackson Betihamah, the chairperson Public Universities Non-Teaching Staff Executive Forum, in the FY 2016/17, the ministry only allocated Shs 28 billion for salaries for nonacademic staff.
He says the failure to pay their arrears is an insult.
Betihamah adds that the ministry of education asked for two weeks to address their issue but no action has been taken yet.
The non-teaching staff of Kyambogo University suspended their March 15thstrike following protracted negotiations with the Ministry of Education officials.
