Survivors of the Kiteezi landfill tragedy have been urged to place their faith in God during this difficult time.
At least 35 people are now confirmed dead, and another 30 remain missing after garbage mounds collapsed at the Kiteezi landfill in Wakiso District last week. The disaster also destroyed property, including several homes and domestic animals.
Leading a special Sunday mass at Kiteezi Church of Uganda Primary School, Father Herman Ssuuna, the parish priest of Kiteezi Catholic Church, called on survivors to look to God and do His will. He encouraged them to pray for strength to endure this challenging period, emphasizing that losing faith in God would only worsen their situation.
“All we have to do in our strengths is to live all the time looking to God and doing his will so that we will not be caught unaware, this is life,” said Father Ssuuna.
Meanwhile, the Uganda Red Cross Society delivered over 200 ecomats, donated by Rose Foam Company, to families displaced by the Kiteezi landfill tragedy. The affected families are currently sheltered at Kiteezi Church of Uganda Primary School.
