The Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) has confirmed that a verification exercise has revealed that over 320 people were displaced by the Kiteezi landfill disaster between August 9 and 18, 2024.
The landfill managed by Kampala Capital City Authority, collapsed on August 10, 2024, burying homes and livelihoods beneath tons of waste.
In a press statement, the Prime Minister’s office indicates that the total number of confirmed deaths now stands at 35, 33 of whom have been identified and buried. Additionally, two are yet to be identified and claimed, while 28 are still missing.
According to the same statement, of the displaced people, 120 are females and 62 males whereas 146 are minors.
