By Darren Allan Kyeyune:

Uganda’s most decorated runners Stephen Kiprotich and Moses Kipsiro have confirmed they will miss next month’s World Athletics Championships in London.

The duo will not be part of the 20 man team, the biggest contingent ever, due to personal reasons.

The experienced pair of long distance runners, who boast of six championship medals, had qualified for the men’s marathon event but have opted out of the biennial event slated for August 4th – 13th.

Kiprotich told Daily Monitor in an exclusive interview after Day One of the National Tarck and Field Championships at Namboole yesterday that his body and mind were not ready, while Kipsiro, a three-time Commonwealth Gold Medalist said a marathon is all about preparation yet he does not feel ready.

Upon opting out, Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) chose Solomo Mutai, Robert Chemonges and Kispsiro in that order but the latter also rejected the call, meaning he has now not represented Uagnda since the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
