Old Kampala hospital authorities have finally broken the silence over the alleged kidney harvest from one of their patients, Muhammad Kabanda. Reports indicating that a doctor from Old Kampala hospital harvested Kabanda’s kidney went viral a few weeks ago.
The hospital has now issued a 7-day ultimatum to Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago (Kabanda’s lawyer) to issue a public apology over defamatory statements against them over the alleged kidney harvest.
This follows Kabanda’s appeal through Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago’s Chambers of Lukwago and Company Advocates alleging that Old Kampala hospital had harvested his left kidney illegally. He further explained that the alleged harvest happened at the time he received treatment for the head injuries sustained following a road accident in Makindye.
Addressing the press this afternoon, the Medical Director of Old Kampala Hospital, Dr. Kazibwe Faizal said a team of lawyers has been lined up ready to take up the case in the courts of law should they fail to comply within the stipulated time.
“The Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, and Mr. Kabanda have been maliciously spreading inaccurate and unfounded information that is damaging to the hospital and the surgeon’s profession character,” Dr. Kazibwe said.
“His worship, the Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, and Mr. Kabanda Muhammad should issue a public apology and retract the allegations made against Old Kampala hospital on the front page of The Newvision and Daily Monitor newspapers within seven days,” He added.
