Kenya’s Deputy President Mr. William Ruto says his visit to Uganda should not be construed as a campaign for incumbent President Yoweri Museveni.
Ruto and President Museveni have been holding a joint press conference at the Kapchorwa state lodge as Museveni continues canvassing for votes ahead of the February 2016 polls.
Questions have been raised about Ruto’s seemingly growing interest in Ugandan politics. Recently, he invited NRM candidates who lost in the primaries for a meeting in Kenya.
This also comes after Mr. Ruto met with losers of NRM primaries some of whom have since contested for various elective positions as independent candidates.
However, Ruto says Ugandans should be the ones to decide the path the country takes adding that he is not here to drum up support for president Museveni.
He has described his visit as a simple gesture of good will because the people of Kenya value the regional peace that has been fostered by president Museveni.
