By Damali Mukhaye:

Kampala Capital City Authority has bowed to pressure and withdrawn all its enforcement officers following the death of a street vendor who drowned in Nakivubo channel.

The 35 year- old woman drowned as she fled from law enforcement officers who were pursuing her, drawing fierce criticism.

Speaking to KFM, spokesperson person of KCCA peter Kauju says the officers received threats from the public and they cannot return to the field until their safety is ensured.

Yesterday rights activists called for regulation of these enforcement officers’ operations saying many were abusing rights of city dwellers.

Earlier, the lord mayor Erias Lukwago condemned the manner in which the officers conduct their operations, challenging the authority to take on the responsibility of taking care of the orphans left behind by the deceased.
