City lord councilors have passed a resolution for a ban on leasing markets in Kampala.
This was during today’s Kampala Capital City Authority council meeting chaired by the Lord Mayor of Kampala Erias Lukwago.
The proposal was fronted by the Lord mayor himself after getting clues that Bugoloobi market is about to be leased out.
Lukwago said many city markets that have been leased have left traders suffering, following dubious deals by city tycoons that resulted into land grabbing leaving market vendors stranded.
He also cited the existing conflicts in Usafi, Wandegeya and Owino markets that have left vendors in constant fear of evictions.
