Democratic Party (DP) President General Norbert Mao, who also serves as Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, is exploring options to persuade the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party to withdraw from the Kawempe North parliamentary by-election and support the DP candidate.
Mao announced Henry Kasakya Mubiru as the DP’s flag bearer for the by-election on Tuesday, stating that Kasakya’s experience and education make him the ideal candidate to represent the people of Kawempe North in Parliament.
“I will request them (NRM) to ask their candidate to step down for Henry Kasakya because we believe he is the best in the field,” Mao said.
While the NRM has endorsed Faridah Nambi for the same position, Mao suggested that it would be in the best interest of the cooperation agreement between the two parties for Nambi to withdraw and support Kasakya.
