The Katikiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga has said that completion of reconstruction works on Kasubi Tombs is expected by the end of 2018.
Mayiga revealed this to journalist while inspecting the tombs this morning to check progress made so far.
He however says there is still a shortage of reeds and other vital construction materials, a situation he blames on the suspension of the kingdom’s fundraising drive code named “ettoffali”
Mayega says the Kasubi tombs project is currently drawing funds from the already drained Buganda kingdom coffers and well-wishers.
The tombs were torched by unknown people in 2009, leaving some of the historical objects either completely destroyed or damaged.
The tombs house the remains of four fallen Buganda kings including Daniel Mwanga II, Mutesa I, Edward Mutesa II and Daudi Chwa.
