The famine ravaging Karamoja sub-region is taking another dangerous trend with parents resorting to giving their children alcohol to enable them sleep and stop crying due to hunger.
According to Muzamiru Masaba, a health officer at St. Pius health center three in Moroto district, parents are using alcohol as an alternative, putting children’s lives at an even greater risk.
Months ago back at least 27 people died as a result of hunger.
Currently, the most affected are children under the age of five years. Most of the children taken to health centers for treatment are malnourished.
