Bribery has been cited as one of the factors contributing to the big percentage of Ugandans who do not have trust in the Judiciary and it’s services.
This is contained in findings of a new report released today dubbed Baseline study to populate the Judiciary and the performance enhancement tool .
It notes that lack of mechanism tools to measure performances and capacities of individual judicial officers has also contributed to the negative attitude of the public towards the Judiciary.
The report has also revealed that the lowest case disposal rate is at the Court of Appeal at 7% while the highest is at lower magistrate courts.
The report presented by Makerere Univerisy’s proffessor Augustine Nuwagaba also showed an increase in number of child offenders which is currently at over twenty one thousand cases mainly on defilement, abortion and theft.
Proffessor Nuwagaba, argues that the report will keep the judciary in check to improve its services.
