Veteran Journalist Timothy Kalyegira has been in charged with criminal libel in Court.
Kalyegira has this afternoon appeared before the Kampala City Council Magistrates’ Court.
He is alleged to have defamed President Museveni in articles that appeared on his on-line publication, the Uganda Record last year.
Kalyegira says his troubles arise from articles about the July 11th bomb blasts that killed at least 80 people, in which he accused the government of falsely blaming the Alshabab for the attack.
He appeared before Grade II Magistrate James Wambeya who said he does not have jurisdiction over the matter and remanded Kalyegira to Luzira prison until Monday next week.
He said the Court’s Grade I magistrate Juliet Atanga, who is to handle the case would have returned by then.
Timothy Kalyegira is also a panelist on KFM.
