By Ruth Anderah.

The jailed ADF Leader Jamil Mukulu advocates have threatened to apply to the International Crimes Division of the High Court to dismiss charges against their client and 35 others if the DPP is not ready with his evidence by July 20th 2018.

The lawyers led by Caleb Alaka, are concerned that their clients’ right to a speedy and fair trial is curtailed given the many years they have spent on remand in different detention centers.

Presiding Judge Eva Luswata also reminded the DPP’s representative Thomas Jatiko, of her earlier order giving them a time frame within which to disclosed its intended evidence to the accused persons, but all they come back with are unnecessary excuses.

The Judge has noted that she will not tolerate this laxity from the Prosecution and sounded a serious warning them to respect her orders.

However the DPP maintains that his evidence against the accused persons is ready on file but before they can pass it on to the defense ‘ Lawyers they need court to issue an order blocking them from disclosing it to the public given its sensitivity.

Mukulu and the group are linked to the famous murder of college students at Kichwamba Techinical institute in 1998, the spate of Muslim clerics’ murders that swept the country between 2015 -2016 and the murder of 2 police officers at Bugiri police station in Busoga.

Mukulu is further said to have launched a rebellion against government in which he is alleged to have terrorized people in the Rwenzori region in Western Uganda before he established a base in the forests of DR. Congo.
