The trial of 32 National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters accused of being in possession of explosives is expected to kick off today at the General Court Martial Chaired by Brig. Gen. Freeman Robert Mugabe.
Prosecution alleges that between November 2020 and May 2021, the suspects were in possession of explosives (bombs), a monopoly of the armed forces.
They were arrested from different places in Jinja, Mbale, Kireka, Nakulabye , Nateete, and Kampala Central.
Trouble for the accused started when the Uganda Police Force accused them of plotting to carry out petrol bomb attacks targeting government vehicles and buildings in various places in the country ahead of President Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony in May 2021.
On October 11, 2022, the Court Martial chairperson, Brig Robert Freeman Mugabe, dismissed the detainees’ bail application which had been filed nine months prior.
