The Sudanese government and the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) have set August 19th to negotiate and finalise discussions on the remaining aspects of the South Sudan peace deal
Sudanese Foreign Affairs Minister Al-Dierdry al-Dhikheri told the IGAD meeting last Thursday in Khartoum that discussions on the revitalized agreement on resolution of conflict in South Sudan must be finalized by Sunday, signed by the warring parties and IGAD heads of state before the Islamic festival of Eid Al-Adha on August 21st.
Among the key aspects that must be covered, are the amendments from chapters 3 to 8 of the agreement that cover humanitarian assistance and reconstruction, economic and financial management, traditional justice and reconciliation.
The others are Parameters of permanent constitution, joint monitoring and evaluation commission, supremacy of the agreement and procedures for amendment of the agreement.
