Kenya’s Electoral Commission has said it will formally announce the winner of Tuesday’s presidential election today.
The announcement comes amid growing tension after the opposition declared election victory for their candidate in departure from law.
The National Super Alliance yesterday claimed its presidential candidate, Raila Odinga, is the winner of the election, demanding that he and his running mate, Kalonzo Musyoka, be given power because the results being declared are the product of alleged hacking.
However, addressing the media on Thursday evening, the IEBC boss Wafula Chebukati, maintained that lawful and official results will only be announced by the electoral commission which is mandated to do so.
Meanwhile, the US has urged patience as the electoral commission tallies presidential poll results.
President Donald Trump’s administration said yesterday the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission should be given time to determine the winner of the Tuesday poll.
