President Yoweri Museveni says he does not need help from young politicians during campaigns.
Speaking to the media at State House Entebbe on Saturday afternoon, Museveni finally responded to questions about the controversial visit by Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto. “I don’t need anyone to campaign for me because i’m mobile, i have my mouth i don’t leave it at home. So i do not anybody to campaign for me”, the president said.
Ruto’s recent visit to Kapchorwa where he joined the NRM candidate on his campaign trail has raised several questions especially among the opposition who have interpreted it as meddling in Uganda’s political affairs.
Speaking at one of president Museveni’s campaign rallies in Kapchorwa in the local dialect, Ruto urged residents to vote for the NRM candidate because of the peace and stability he has ushered into Uganda and the entire region.
However, President Museveni has defended the move as one meant to promote Pan Africanism since Mr. Ruto who is a Kalengin was speaking to his tribesmen-the Sabiny of Uganda. President Museveni also explained that as Munyakole from Uganda he can comfortably address a rally in many parts of neighboring Tanzania or even Democratic Republic of Congo, further reaffirming the spirit of Pan African ism. He added that Mr. Ruto led a delegation from Kenya earlier to learn how things are done in Uganda and pick a leaf.
President Museveni also responded to the now trending hands-on administrative style of Tanzania’s new president John Magufuli, describing it as mere symbolism.
President Museveni has attacked the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Dr. Kiiza Besigye for allegedly blowing out of proportion the situation at Abim Referral Hospital.
Responding to questions regarding the threats of disciplinary action against the nurses who gave Besigye a guided tour of the hospital, Museveni said it was wrong for them to only highlight the poor state of the hospital yet they are good ones as well.
