Hundreds of pilgrims have so far arrived at Namugongo Martyrs’ shrine ahead of the martyr’s day celebrations slated for next week.
According to the promoter of martyrs devotion Father Joseph Muwonge the group includes pilgrims from as far as Rwanda.
Others are from Bushenyi, Masaka and Nebbi among other places.
Father Muwonge says the church is working closely with the police to ensure total safety of the pilgrims during the celebrations.
Meanwhile, the Police has re- activated its highway integrated patrol unit to ensure safety of pilgrims that are trekking to Namugongo.
Speaking to the media earlier today the Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson Patrick Onyango said they decision was taken because many hit and run accidents tend to occur during this period.
Martyrs Day is marked every 3rd of June in remembrance of scores of young men who gave up their lives for their faith between 1885 and 1887.
