The Constitutional Court is today expected to deliver its ruling on a petition challenging the constitutionality of the anti-homosexuality law.
The petition was filed by individuals and civil society organizations that advocate for non-discrimination of Ugandans on the basis of sexual orientation.
The petitioners who include Prof. Oloka Onyango, Andrew Mwenda, Prof. Ongenga Latigo and other human rights activists want court to issue permanent orders staying the implementation of the Anti-Homosexuality Act, arguing that it violates the constitutionally guaranteed right to privacy.
They also want court to permanently stay the gazetting of the Anti-Homosexuality Act, 2014 which criminalizes same sex relationships.
The case is before the five justices of the Constitutional Court led by the Acting Chief Justice Steven Kavuma.
