Civil society organizations dealing in nutrition want the Food and Nutrition Bill 2008 passed urgently.
The organizations believe the bill will greatly help in reducing cases of malnutrition.
The National Coordinator of the Food Rights Organization Agnes Kirabo says according to the World Food Organization, over Sh1.8trillion is spent on treatment of conditions related to under nutrition annually.
This, according to a recent study by WFP and National Planning Authority dubbed The Cost of Hunger Report 2013, is the equivalent of 5.6% of the Gross Domestic Product.
She says with the bill in place, there will be room to hold government accountable as far as promotion of nutrition is concerned.
Kirabo made the remarks at a meeting held in Kampala between members of the civil society and parliament ahead of the World Food Day slated for the 16th of October.
