Renowned international women rights activist Graca Machel is expected in the country today for three day working visit.
Machel’s visit is intended to boost the campaign for women empowerment.
Machel is the founder and patron of New Face, New Voices -a pan African advocacy group that focuses on expending the role and influence of women in the finance sector.
She is scheduled to meet the ministers of finance, gender, the central bank governor as well as officials from other ministries with the agenda of linking women to government institutions.
The New Faces, New Voices advocacy group aims at increasing women’s access to financial services and their capacity as entrepreneurs.
“An international advocate for women’s and children’s rights, Graca Machel has been a social and political activist over many decades”, says Martin Ninsiima, the Communications and Advocacy Officer for the UN Women Country Office-Uganda.
“Machel was made a British dame in 1997 for her humanitarian work”, Ninsiima adds.
