Government is set to take over the protection of majority of intact wetlands in the country as parts of efforts to conserve the environment and all natural resources.
The State Minister for Environment Dr Mary Goretti Kitutu says they have already directed NEMA to map out some of the intact wetlands with many being in Masaka district so that they can be protected early enough.
She says some of the areas that are to be protected include; breeding places for the Crested Cranes, River and lake banks among others.
Kitutu adds that instruments to declare their protection are yet to be presented in parliament for consideration.
She however appealed to the general public to individually protect the environment before government can force them to do so.
