Government has finalised plans to extend internet infrastructures to the hard to reach areas.
According to the Minister for ICT and National Guidance Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the move is intended to provide students in the rural areas to access online learning facilities, and enable them cope up with the effects of COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Baryomunsi says, in the next six months, laying of the fibre cables will kick off, targeting regions such as Karamoja among others.
The minister while officiating at the launch of UNICAF –University operations in Uganda, says, the government’s next target is also to ensure that the cost of the internet is reduced to make it affordable to the citizens.
