Through the Ministry of Agriculture, government is seeking Shs29 billion for building four incineration centers to easily destroy counterfeit and substandard agro-inputs in four regions of the country.
Despite conducting operations that impound tonnes of substandard assorted input material, the ministry only hires the services of Nakasongola military barracks, to dispose them off.
According to the Senior Agricultural Inspector at the Crop Protection and Certification Department at the Ministry of Agriculture Fred Muzira, a Shs29bn project is underway to erect the central incineration at their base in Namalere-Wakiso, in addition to four others in the countryside.
Incineration is a waste treatment process that involves the combustion of substances contained in waste materials. Industrial plants for waste incineration are commonly referred to as waste-to-energy facilities.
