At least 123 applications by foreigners to get Ugandan citizenship have been rejected by the government.

These applications for registration and naturalisation by foreigners were filed between January 2015 and December 2016.

According to Internal Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Jacob Siminyu,  The applications were rejected because they did not meet the requirements for issuance by the Uganda Citizenship and Immigration Control Board.

Siminyu says that they received a total of 2,211 applications for dual citizenship, naturalization and registration and that out of these, 123 applications were rejected while 2,088 certificates were issued between 2015 and 2016.

Those rejected, he says had forged documents from their countries of nationality while others had poor health records.

He says the ministry receives at least 1000 applications every year.

He revealed that a certification of registration goes for $1000(About Shs. 3.5m) whereas a certificate of naturalisation goes for shs.100, 000.
