The minister of finance Matia Kasaija has defended controversial Italian Investor Enrica Pinetti who is behind the stalled construction of the specialized hospital in Lubowa.

In 2019, Parliament guaranteed a shs1.4 Trillion loan to Finasi/ROKO led by Pinetti for the construction of the 264-bed specialized hospital which would be complete by June 2021.

However, nearly three years later, the hospital is still at foundation level with its completion date now set for September 2024.

Early this month, the ministry of finance requested for shs 319 billion to be given to the investor to finalize the construction of this hospital, something the MPS have opposed.

However speaking on the KFM VPN show over the weekend, Kasaija condemned Ugandans for being quick at criticizing the government without having facts.

According to Kasaija, the stalled Lubowa project should not be entirely blamed on Pinetti arguing that she got delays because of covi19.

“Pinetti lost time not because of her choice, two years down the road, all her staff who had come from China all ran away, is she the one who brought covid19? She got delayed because of Covid19,” said Kasaija.
