Government is turning to the media to have its programmes publicized.
Information minister Rose Namayanja says they are looking at securing four hours every week to educate the public using private media houses free of charge.
Namayanja says under the national communication strategy, technocrats will be assigned to also inform the public about government policies.
However responding to the minister’s remarks, the vice chairperson of the National association of broadcasters, Kin Kaliisa was non-committal on granting free air play in pushing government projects saying many media houses are profit oriented.
He however promised that the proposal will be forwarded to the association committees for more discussion.
At the same meeting, The Uganda Communication Commissions boss, Godfrey Mutabaazi asked media houses to always abide by the regulations guiding all broadcasters to ensure harmony in the industry.
