By Damali Mukhaye:

Government is set to recruit 4,700 secondary teachers and non- teaching staff in 100 new and old grant -aided secondary schools beginning next month.

Hundreds of nurses, secretaries, laboratory and library assistants as well as bursars will also be recruited, according to a June 29 circular issued by the ministry of education.

Benson Kule, the acting commissioner secondary education, says 2,700 staff are for the 100 new schools while the 2000 are for the old schools meant to boost both sciences and arts subjects.

He notes that the recruitment follows president Museveni’s directive that every sub county gets a government aided secondary school but in a phased approach.

He noted that priority is given to sub-counties that did not have any government aided school, community based schools, faith based schools and the catchment area around the feeder primary schools in those areas.
