The growth of the tourism sector in Uganda will be reliant on the growth and development of the aviation industry.
While speaking at the launch of the 20-year National Civil Aviation master plan, Works minister, Eng. Abraham Byandala said with the numbers of tourists coming to Uganda, it is prudent that the airline industry is expanded to provide better services to the sector.
Byandala says the airstrips in Arua, Kasese, Hoima and Gulu will be upgraded into international airports to boost tourist numbers while Pakuba, Kotido and Soroti will be upgraded to regional airports.
The master plan is expected to cost at least $400 million.Meanwhile, plans are underway to construct an express railway line from Entebbe airport to transport passengers to the city center.
According to the board chairman of Civil Aviation Authority, Eng. Ndawula Kaweesi, the railway project is part of the 20-year National Civil Aviation Master Plan to ensure efficiency and ease of traffic at the Entebbe International Airport.
Eng. Kaweesi says the concept will also generate revenue that will be utilized to facilitate infrastructural development the airport.
