Government Blamed For Threatening To Prosecute Suicide Survivors.

David Kugonza | September 23, 2016

Government has been blamed for threatening to prosecute people who attempt to commit suicide.

The police vowed to charge 17 year old Mustapha Lule and another man yet to be identified who jumped off the roof tops of Mabiriizi Complex and Garden City in Kampala respectively.

However the Uganda Counselor’s Association describes such a move as cruel and insensitive.

The association spokesperson Ali Male says prosecution is not a long term solution to the problem of suicide in Uganda.

Male says instead, there is urgent need to address the underlying mental health issues affecting Ugandans.
