As parliament prepares to resume business tomorrow, several sectoral committees have faulted government for slowing their business by delaying to table budget estimates for the next financial year.
According to the Public Finance Management Act, 2015 government is mandated to table budget estimates to parliament before April 1st, to allow committees harmonise resource allocation.
However, business flow in the 10th Parliament remains minimal with the speaker often accusing government of failing to table relevant policies to allow members execute their mandate.
These concerns were also raised by Nakasongola District Woman MP Margaret Komuhangi and Bulamogi County’s Kenneth Lubogo the chairpersons of Gender and Trade committees respectively.
The government Chief Whip Ruth Nankabirwa regrets the delay but says the budget estimates were tabled by the ministry of finance to parliament over the weekend.
Meanwhile, Parliament resumes business tomorrow after close to three weeks of recess.
This is according to a memo issued to members by the Clerk to Parliament, Jane Kibirige.
The house is expected to receive alternative policy undertakings by the opposition and look into ministerial policy statements tabled by government before discussing the budget in line with the Public Finance Management Act of 2015.
