The Internal Affairs Minister General Aronda Nyakairima and The commissioner General of prisons Johnson Byabashaijja have been jointly sued over the death of two inmates of Kirinya government Prison in Jinja.
A former inmate Yahaya Lukwago claims that in August 2009 he witnessed the death of his fellow inmates Abdul Karim and Felix Arorongo at the violent hands of prison warders who would beat up all inmates with batons, kicks and punches 4 times daily for 40 days.
Lukwago, who was then serving a twenty-year sentence for aggravated robbery, has given an account of how Karim bled profusely through the nose during one of the many torture sessions after which he collapsed and died on August 7th, 2009.
Through Rwakafuzi and company advocates, Lukwago contends that on the night of August 25th 2009, another inmate Arorongo was tortured to death for attempting to escape from Arua prison where the current Kirinya prison OC James Aiso was in –charge.
Lukwago, who completed his sentence on 20th, June this year, wants Court to compel Gen. Nyakairima to institute an inquiry and investigate the cause of death of the 2 inmates.
The High Court is yet to fix a hearing date.
