The minister of state for Industry David Bahati has informed parliament that the Gatuna border is only open for cargo on the Rwandan side.
He made the revelation after the opposition Chief Whip John Baptist Nambeshe raised concern over lack documentation on the reopening of the border that was closed 3 years ago.
Nambeshe has demanded to know whether the border was partially reopened following reports that some Ugandans were blocked from entering Rwanda.
Meanwhile, Busia Municipality MP Geoffrey Macho has appealed to government to always put their agreements in writing.
In response, Bahati said president Museveni informed them during a cabinet meeting that much as the Gatuna/Katuna border is open, Rwanda is only allowing entry of cargo and not passengers as they are still observing strict Covid-19 prevention procedures.
The deputy speaker of parliament Anitah Among has however tasked the government to present a comprehensive report on the reopening of the Gatuna border.
