Flights have this morning been delayed following an incident involving a Rwanda national aircraft, RwandAir that is stuck along the main runway of the Entebbe International Airport.
RwandAir Flight no WB464 upon landing this morning at Entebbe Airport was involved in a runway excursion.
The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority spokesperson Vianney Luggya confirms that the CRJ9 RwandAir aircraft veered off the runaway due to bad weather.
He however says all the 44 passengers who were on board and the 7 flight crew members were disembarked and are safe.
He adds that a comprehensive investigation is ongoing to establish what could have caused the accident.
“Normally when such incidents happen, we conduct a comprehensive investigation, it is only after that investigation is made that we shall know the actual cause of the accident,” Luggya says.
He has meanwhile apologized and assured all travelers whose flights have been delayed saying they are doing all they can to clear the runway.
“We have issued a Notam to airmen informing them of what has happened and asking them to delay their coming to Entebbe, we apologize to them for that inconvenience to them but also assure that everything is being done to ensure the runway is put back to use,” says Luggya.
RwandAir has issued a statement regarding the incident assuring that no injuries were recorded.
