FDC’s Winnie Kiiza has bounced back to parliament.
This is after she emerged winner of yesterday’s by election for the Kasese district woman member of parliament.
Kiiza beat her closest challenger NRM’s Rehma Muhindo with 97,669 against 59,946 votes.
Democratic Party’s Rosemary Masika came in third place with 1,229 votes.
Winnie Kiiza was declared winner at 2:20am by the Kasese district returning officer Valey Kanzira.
Speaking shortly before the winner was announced, the Electoral Commission Chief Eng. Badru Kigundu urged all the candidates to accept the outcome of the polls saying it had been a relatively transparent and free and fair process.
The by-election that attracted three contestants resulted from a court ruling that nullified Kiiza’s election over electoral irregularities.
