The Forum for Democratic Change party has condemned the manner in which the police handled their leaders yesterday as they planned to hold parallel independence celebration.
Addressing journalists at the party headquarters in Najjanakumbi, the party President Mugisha Muntu criticized the government for violating their freedom to assemble.
He also attacked the government for playing double standards by allowing members of the Uganda People’s Congress to celebrate their independence in Lira while the ruling NRM government attended the national celebrations in Luuka district.
Yesterday police arrested a number of opposition figures at their homes as they planned to hold their own event at Katwe play grounds.
Those arrested include Dr. Kizza Besigye, Makindye West MP Allan SSewanyana, Kampala Lord mayor Erias Lukwago.
Muntu has berated the government for this describing it as panic by the government, vowing that they will continue with their campaign to bring change to Uganda.
