The Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party has dragged the police chief Gen Kale Kayihura to the High Court accusing him of illegally blocking their pre-nomination rallies.
The FDC, through its deputy electoral commissioner Michael Kabaziguruka is seeking a court declaration that all campaigns and rallies for parties and individuals vying for various elective positions are lawful and not subject to the Public Order Management Act.
The party also challenges the directive by the Electoral Commission(EC) stopping aspiring candidates from holding public meetings of any kind until after nominations yet it’s the same commission that issued a roadmap in May this year detailing all electoral activities.
The FDC contends that it is the basis of this roadmap that they embarked on a campaign to reach out to the public expounding on their political and economic agenda for the country.
The party further wants court to enlighten the IGP and EC that all political parties are guaranteed the rights and freedoms to hold campaigns during the pre-nomination period.
