FDC’s Paul Kato has been declared the new Guild president for Makerere University succeeding the former guild president Roy Ssemboga whose term of office ended early March.
While announcing the results last night at around 10pm, the chairperson electoral commission Makerere University, Isaac Otuuko observed that the election was free and fair.
Kato’s victory follows a highly competitive race which saw 14 Candidates vying for the guild presidential race.
He managed to win the race after garnering 5205 votes out of the 13,508 total votes which account for a 38.5% .
He was closely followed by his greatest rival in the race Abdul Kareem Zilitwawula who gathered 4369 votes making it 32.34% of the total votes.
Meanwhile Mercy Lakisa one of the women who had also contested in the race managed to take up the third position after acquiring 1569 votes which equates to 11.6% win.
James kazungu who was indepi got only one vote.
Kato’s win follows Thursday 8th April incident when the former FDC presidential candidate Dr.Kiiza Besigye beat the University’s security system and entered the institution incognito to campaign for him in a car allegedly thought to be owned by Doreen Nyanjura who is the LCV Chairperson makerere.
