The European Union has asked the Government of Uganda to respect freedom of expression and the right to peaceful and safe assembly, including the free movement of all political actors and their supporters.
This follows the just concluded general poll which was won by the incumbent Yoweri Museveni.
The Union notes they are gravely concerned by the continued harassment of political actors and infringement of their rights.
In a statement, they have also condemned the internet shutdown which disrupted freedom of expression, access to information, affecting the regular economic and social activities.
They have however commended Uganda for the peaceful process since no major violent incidents were reported on Election Day, much as pre-election violence and murders were reported.
Their call comes at a time the former NUP presidential candidate continues to be under house arrest.
