The Electoral Commission has imported 32,000 biometric voter verification gadgets to prevent vote rigging ahead of the February 18th polls.
The devices take voters thumb prints for verification purposes and if one is not registered to vote at a particular polling station, then it locates the right polling station for them.
Electoral Commission chairman Eng Badru Kigundu says the devices will be used at all the 28,010 polling stations across the country and will ensure a transparent process since it does not allow multiple voting.
The device has a battery span of 18 hours, with computerized timing which will see it functional from 8:00 am when voting officially starts and will automatically shut down at 5:00pm when polling closes.
The device has been launched this morning by the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga at hotel Africana.
Kadaga has also asked the commission to ensure that persons with disabilities especially lepers and those with missing fingers are helped to ensure they also exercise their right to vote.
