A renowned economic expert has warned of dire consequences of shunning the ongoing National Population and Housing Census exercise on the economy.
This is after six people were arrested in Mityana and Pallisa districts over dodging the census exercise.
Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba, and senior consultant on economic transformation, says refusing to be counted is uncalled for because the government cannot budget for its citizens without accurate figures.
He adds that no country has transformed economically without having the right number of people living there.
Prof. Nuwagaba however asks the government to ensure it delivers quality services to the people so they appreciate the value of the census and continue embarrassing such exercises.
He empathizes that census figures play a critical role in guiding planning, policy formulation, and program implantation.
