The Electoral says it will not disqualify any one from the Kampala Mayoral race over the malpractice in the aborted exercise.
The elections were cancelled on 23 February over wide spread malpractice and violence.
Ballot stuffing was reported at some polling stations and voting started as early as 5.00am at some centres.
Four of the mayoral candidates petitioned the Commission asking that any candidates implicated in the said malpractice should be disqualified from the race.
The four including, Francis Babu, Sandra Ngabo, Mike Mabikke and Emmanuel Tumussime also threatened to quit the race if no action is taken against the said culprits.
They also want compensation from the Commission for time lost and resources.
The Electoral Commission says it has received the petition from mayoral candidates but adds that it cannot disqualify any one from the race since investigations are still ongoing.
Speaking to KFM, the Commission’s deputy spokesperson Paul Bukenya says matters of implicated candidates can still be addressed in Court later.
Bukenya adds that it is unfair for the candidates to ask for compensation from the Commission because it also lost time and money.
The elections are now set to be held on March 14th and it remains to be seen if the said candidates will keep in the race.
The other candidates in the race are NRM’s Peter Sematimba and independent Erias Lukwago.
