The Electoral Commission has commenced preparations for the election of LC 1 and 2 chairpersons and village committees set for 2023.
The commission conducted elections for office bearers in 2018 through the lining up after over 20 years without elections to those posts.
The commission’s chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama says the terms of the current leaders expire in 2023 and as such there will be need to have elections for leaders to take on the offices for the next 5 years.
He says with the fleet of vehicles procured will help ease the commission’s distribution of polling materials among other services to all villages across the country.
The commission chairperson yesterday handed over about 50 vehicles which are part of a bigger fleet of 132 and 21 motorcycles to EC field staff.
