The Mubende Ebola Health workers have threatened to take legal action against the Ministry of Health over unpaid salary arrears and allowances amounting to nearly Shs2 billion.
Through their Lawyers of Makmot Kiwanga and Company Advocates, the over 60 health workers have written a demand notice to the Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary.
These, who include medical doctors, clinical officers, nursing officers, laboratory technicians, and a psychiatrist have issued a 14-day ultimatum to have the money paid or they take legal action against the ministry.
According to the letter, the aggrieved health workers were deployed in Mubende Ebola hotspot and epicentre from October 22nd to November 24th, 2022 without any employment contract.
However, later employment contracts were executed for a 6-month period from 25th November 2022 and May 2023 where doctors were meant to receive a monthly pay of Sh5.4 million, Shs2.6 million for clinical officers, Shs4.4 million and enrolled nurses Shs1.4 million, but was never realized despite several attempts by the complainants.
The Ministry of Health is yet to respond to the health workers’ demands.
