The East African Community member states have approved a resolution that will see construction of five centers of excellence in the region.
These will include a cancer treatment, to be constructed in Uganda, a Kidney Treatment Center in Kenya, and a modern heart institute in Tanzania.
Rwanda and Burudi will have Biomedical Engineering and Nutrition Centers respectively.
The state minister for Health Erioda Tumwesigye says the centers will are meant to boost health research in the region.
Currently, the five East African Member countries spend over 150 million US dollars annually to treat Non-communicable diseases.
